Discovering Wrexham’s Fonts

Font on buildings have a unique way of narrating stories of the past, and Wrexham’s architectural wonders are no exception.

As we wandered through the town’s streets, we were amazed by the wide variety of styles, shapes and colours of the font gracing its buildings – old pubs, market halls, banks and hotels.

It seems as though every large town has been home to a Debenhams and Wrexham is no exception.

Wherever we go we seem to find these closed stores with their fading signage. It’s good to know they’re being preserved as we’re sure that one day soon, they’ll all be dismantled and will disappear altogether.

The Turf Pub – A Footballing Haven

For over 150 years, the Turf Hotel (originally The Turf Tavern) has been the meeting place on match days for  Wrexham’s fans.

It was the only pub in the United Kingdom to be built inside the grounds of a football club, and is now the oldest public house at any sport stadium in the world.

In Wrexham, football is more than just a sport; it is a way of life. The town’s love for the beautiful game is embodied by the legendary Wrexham Football Club, a team with a storied history of success and triumphs.

The Triumphs of Wrexham AFC

Wrexham AFC’s journey is a testament to the resilience of the town and its unwavering love for football.

Over the years, the club has celebrated numerous accolades, including reaching the FA Cup quarterfinals and famously defeating Arsenal in the Third Round in 1992.

The spirit of the club has remained unyielding, even during challenging times, and the font at The Turf Pub embodies this dedication to the sport.

In 2022, Wrexham Football Club achieved a momentous milestone by earning promotion back to league 2 of the English Football League after a 15 year absence.

Under the ownership of Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the team showcased exceptional performances throughout the season, securing crucial victories that propelled them to promotion.

The support of Wrexham AFC’s loyal fanbase played a crucial role in the team’s success.

The promotion marked a new chapter in the club’s history and brought a sense of pride and accomplishment to the entire community.
